Description
Primary health center located at Aguleri II in Anambra East Local government has a target population of
about ten thousand and nine people.
The PHC which is centrally located and linked to General hospital Umueri has eight villages in the
coverage area .
Motivation is poor at the center. Maureen Ogugua, a staff at the center says workers are not motivated
to enhance performance.
Medical supplies and drugs for the phc are procured from Anambra east local government and from
neighborhood markets.
Records show that the phc admitted about a dozen patients between March and April 2018, and three
babies were born at the centre during the same period.
Public electric power and water supply are irregular at the phc and rechargable lamp provide a light for
deliveries and minor surgeries. There is no back up power source.
Located at about three kilometres from the General hospital umueri, the phc Aguleri II is housed in a five
bedroom bungalow which needs rehabilitation. The room leaks in several spots when it rains, the wall
paints are fading and staff says the last renovation at the center was in 2013.
The phc has about five beds which were poorly dressed ,while basic laboratory test except sputum are
done at the phc.
Staffing is ad hoc: a few community health workers run the center while, medical officers who are on
contract visit to the center about twice weekly.
Other Categories of staff like pharmacist and laboratory technicians and drivers are non existent. The
phc has no ambulance but close to Chinedu Hospital.
A patient Mmachi Iruka hails from Engwu had malaria and no medicine was administered free. She said
no receipt was given for the money she paid for the drugs but the tests were done in the phc and
doctors did not refer her to another hospital.
