Description
Primary Health Care Centre in Obiuno, Igbo-ukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state. According to Mrs. Obiesie Chinwe, who is the officer-in-charge of the Health Centre, has a total population of 16,838, with 6 villages. It is linked to Anglican maternity hospital Ngo. Also, Chinwe said the PHC gets its supplies through purchase, but in the last two months through drug revolving. She complained that the PHC is far from the general hospital at Ekwulobia and even farther from the teaching hospital at Nnewi.
In her words,”I will like the media houses to tell the government that we need solar refrigerator in order to preserve drugs and vaccines, we lack staff, no electricity and also a functional generator as the one we have here is not in working condition.” Chinwe added that the residential arrangement for staff is unsatisfactory as the building is at the point of collapse.
In the absence of facilities for blood, urine and sputum testing, the health workers in the facility make use of hemoglobin scale for blood test.
In addition, admitting of patients do not take place as much patients will always prefer to take treatment and return home; in the past month the facility recorded 461 treated cases, it also record 0-5 deliveries each month. During delivery, the use of torch light is employed in the absence of electricity.
The PHC have a nurse and community health extension worker, this has led to one person acting as everything regardless of qualification.
